Monday rain drops temps 27 degrees

Did it seem to you like Monday afternoon’s rainstorm cooled off Rockdale a lot in a short amount of time?

You were right, to the tune of 27 degrees.

The storm line rumbled into Rockdale about 6 p.m., just after the U. S. Weather Service thermometer at KRXT-FM had registered a summer’s high of 107.

Within minutes the mercury had dropped to 80. And there were a lot of steaming sidewalks.

Rainfall was measured at 32 hundredths at KRXT although total of more than twice that amount were logged throughout town.

It was the first measurable precipitation in Rockdale since July 28-29 when 33 hundredths fell.

It’s been a streaky summer so far.

No 100 degree readings were recorded in June or in the first 30 days of July, a rarity for Rockdale.

But once the triple digit juggernaut started rolling it has barely stopped.

Highs of 100 or more have been logged 15 of the first 16 days in August,

It was “only” 99 on Aug. 8.

There have been five highs of 103 or greater including Monday’s 107.

Before the rain, that is.
