Area school enrollment up, down and steady

First-day school enrollment figures were up in Gause, down in Thorndale and steady in Milano.

In the Gause ISD, 176 students answered the bell for the first day of classes Monday, an increase of 21 from the 155 who began the 2009-10 school year, according to Supt. Perry Bell.

Milano ISD enrolled 411 on Monday, up one from the 410 who began classes in August, 2009.

Supt. Casey Callahan said 534 students enrolled Monday in the Thorndale ISD, compared to 551 last year.

“But we’re actually a little above the 532 we ended the 2009-10 school term in May,” he said.
