School caution light acts up on first day
It’s becoming a tradition. The blinking “school rush” caution light on US 79 at Rockdale Intermediate School malfunctioned Monday morning on the first day of classes.
It did the same thing last year on the first morning of classes.
“One side blinked and the other side didn’t,” Lt. J. D. Newlin of the Rockdale Police Department said. “TxDOT did finally get it fixed.”
Other than that glitch, Newlin said traffic is flowing well around the schools.
“We’re trying something new around the elementary, trying to create ‘loading zones’ similar to those that work so well at the intermediate,” he said.
“Of course it’s more difficult dealing with a public street than with a school parking lot, which is what you have at the intermediate,” Newlin said.
