A fund raiser to assist the Eric Balch family, which lost a son and saw two family members seriously burned in a July 17 fire, is set for Sept. 12 at the Marak Hall, seven miles west of Cameron on FM 2269.

The event includes a barbecue lunch, live auction and fund-raiser in which a gun will be given away.

Lunch, beginning at 11 a.m., includes brisket, sausage, potato salad, beans, bread, tea and dessert. Tickets are $8 per plate and will be available only at the door.

A live auction begins at 1 p.m. Donated items may be dropped off at Cameron cleaners. Anyone wanting to donate may call Brenda Barton, 254-697-6125 or Karen Berry, 254-697-6862.

Mason Balch, two, died in the explosion and fire at the family home in Gatesville. His brother, Cade, and father Eric were severely burned. Eric Balch sustained his burns as he re-entered his burning garage in an attempt to save his sons.
