CHAMBER NEWS

The Rockdale Chamber is here to support YOU!
Denice Doss
Chambers of Commerce have been in operation since 1770. Originally they were begun for promoting trade and training young men for commercial careers, especially overseas.

In the U.S. early Chambers undertook to promote the sale of goods. They organized markets, made and enforced rules of trade, and protected goods in transit.

The emergence of the Chamber as a true community organization came much later as businesses began to realize that their own prosperity depended on the development of a prosperous, healthy and happy community. Now the local Chamber of Commerce is the central agency for the community development of business, industry, the professions and all civic interests performing tasks that no individual can do alone.

Chambers are the front door of the community, the place where visitors and newcomers get their first impression of our area.

Today the Chamber is the heartbeat of the community. The Chamber maintains an office with a full-time staff devoted to the community and all that goes on in the area. As we at the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce continue to work for the businesses and the community I am proud to say that we have been in business for 58 years.

The mission of the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce is to preserve and promote the economic interest and well-being of Rockdale and the surrounding community.

One of the benefits of membership is We Promote You through business referrals to hundreds of inquiries each year requesting information about Rockdale and our area businesses, professionals, services, and other establishments. Through brochures and information to talk about the many characteristics and activities of Rockdale we promote area businesses, cultural activities, shopping, and dining.

Another benefit is We Help You Advertise. Through maps, labels/lists and bulk rate mail we help our members get the word out about their business.

We provide network opportunities through Chamber mixers, Chamber Ambassadors, and Use of Hogan Hall.

Another benefit of membership is free workshops, one of which is scheduled for next Tuesday, August 31. The topic is “Beyond Traditional Marketing” and tells businesses how to market their business through facebook, twitter and blogs. The workshop will be held at the Patterson Center from 8:30- 11:30 a.m.

We also Keep You Informed through our monthly newsletter, and weekly column in newspaper and radio.

The Chamber is a member of the Brazos Trail Board, a member of El Camino Real de los Tejas, represents Rockdale on the Development District of Central Texas through CTCOG.

We are here to serve the membership and the community. If you have any questions or suggestions please call the Chamber at 446-2030

Until next time I leave you with this: Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.
