School in full swing at MISD

Milano schools have began and are in full swing. Parents, be sure to check backpacks for those that have them. Papers are given to students to take home and be returned with parents signatures.

Please watch for school buses stopping and students loading and unloading in the mornings and afternoons.

Grandsons Bradley Bakken and Breyton Steinbecker are now Pre- K students at Milano Elementary. Mama Kay and Papa wish them luck in their new adventure. God bless Mrs. Neva Caffey with all her little ones.

Milano 4-H Club will meet at 6:45 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30 in the high school cafeteria.

The first PATCH Club meeting of the school year is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31 at the Milano Elementary School.

More events have been added to the Milano Fall Fest set Saturday, Sept. 25 in downtown. Make your plans to spend your day watching tractor pulls, car shows, quilt shows, enjoying lots of food and great gospel music. Arts and crafts booths are also available.

Don’t forget that Milano’s homecoming football game and annual former students reunion will be on separate weekends this year due to scheduling conflicts. The football game is now set for Friday, Sept. 10 and will include the crowning of the 2010 MHS homecoming queen. However, the Ex-Students Association will hold its annual reunion and luncheon on the originally scheduled date of Saturday, Oct. 23.

A barbecue meal by The Crossing will be served at noon for $10 a plate. Items are also being sought for live and silent auctions.

With the start of school begins busy schedules for Eagle and Lady Eagle sports teams. The varsity volleyball team will play in the Robinson tournament on Thursday and Saturday. All high school volleyball teams will host Normangee on Friday with games starting at 5 p.m. The girls will then host Snook on Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 5 p.m.

Football teams will start their season this week as well. The junior varsity will host the Rockdale freshmen “gold” team at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26 at Pruitt field. The varsity will host Waco- Texas Christian Academy on Friday, Aug. 27 at 7:30 p.m.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
