Rockdale Junior High open house Tuesday

Rockdale Junior High open house for the 2010-11 school year will be from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, principal April Eschberger said.

“We will be handing out student progress reports on Tuesday evening. Parents will have the opportunity to meet their student’s teachers and ask questions,” Eschberger said.

Also, there will be a Gifted and Talented parent meeting from 5:30 to 6.

“We will have door prizes this evening and encourage each parent to attend and pick up progress reports,” Eschberger said.

Locklin earns masters degree from A&M

COLLEGE STATION–Felicia Jean Locklin earned a master of exercise physiology degree in sports physiology from Texas A&M Universit y on Aug. 13. She has accepted a position as a strength and conditioning coach with the University of Florida.

Locklin is a 2000 graduate of Thorndale High School and earned her bachelor’s degree in exercise sports science from Texas State University-San Marcos in 2005. She is the daughter of Scott and Diane Locklin.

Gause soccer league last sign up Thursday

Gause soccer league will hold its last registration from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2 at the Gause school cafeteria. It is open to all students in Gause, Cameron, Milano, Mumford, Hearne and Calvert, spokesperson Janet Pilkey said.

The cost is $40 per child for ages 4 through 9. Older players ages 9 through 12 will be playing in the Bryan league where the cost will be $50.

Milano yearbooks on sale this week only

The 2011 Milano ISD yearbooks are on sale for this week only, according to sponsor Celina Ramos.

Milano seniors set spaghetti dinner

Milano High School’s senior class will hold a spaghetti dinner at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10 prior to the Eagles homecoming football game, sponsor Celina Ramos said.

The dinner will be held in the elementary cafeteria and cost is $5 a plate. All proceeds will go towards the senior class trip, Ramos said.

Thorndale boosters set ‘Bulldog Challenge’

On Fr iday nights of home football games, the Thorndale Athletic Booster Club will hold the 2010 Bulldog Challenge, club secretary Marcy Jones said.

Athletes young and old have an opportunity to win a chance to kick a field goal at varsity football games played at home in Thorndale.

K ickers scoring field goals will win $50 gift cards from area businesses and a chance to double their winnings. Proceeds benefit Thorndale athletics, Jones said.

Red Cross blood drive Sept. 13 at MHS

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13 at Milano high school old band hall.

To sign up, or for more information, call the high school at 512-455-9333. Donors need to bring their ID and are encouraged to drink plenty of water prior to donating.
