Nocturnal Fest draws 25,000 in two nights
Deputy sheriff treated for minor injuries; first case of LSD in 15 years reported by police
The largest crowd in Milam County in 27 years drew 25,000 music fans to Apache Pass Saturday and Sunday and provided an economic boost to Rockdale motels and restaurants.
At least 50 arrests during the Nocturnal Fest weekend were reported by county law enforcement agencies, although Sheriff David Greene said only five were made on the Apache Pass grounds. Full Story
SRO crowd expected at Monday tax hearing
There’s a pretty good chance it will be a standing-room-only crowd in the Milam County Commissioners Courtroom at 9:45 a.m. Monday when commissioners conduct their second public hearing on the 2010-11 proposed tax rate.

Like you, I’ve seen hundreds of photos over the years of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., and also many of the Jefferson Memorial, but nothing prepared me for just what awesome spectacles they are.
Just as I said last week, it took me almost 75 years to work in a visit to the nation’s capitol, and it was so worth the wait. Full Story
What division either school is in matters little in river rivalry
In storied rivalries such as one which the history Rockdale and Cameron have produced, intangibles such as ranking or classification has little bearing on the psyche of the players on either team.
A prime example is the legendary 1975 contest (see column at left) which is considered the greatest game in the 83-game series. Full Story

Junior running back smashes rushing mark
While Rockdale is still trying to find its footing in the inception of this new season, Daniel Brooks is proving his footwork can really take him to far away places.
The junior running back obliterated the school record for rushing yards in a game by piling up 300 in leading Big Blue to a 38-20 victory over Salado at Tiger Field Friday night. Full Story
1975 instant classic still worthy of discussion
The last time Rockdale and Cameron butted heads and weren’t pinned up in the same corral was in 1975.
Coincidently, Friday night will mark the 35th anniversary of the 1975 donnybrook between Rockdale and Cameron which is considered the greatest game in the series— Battle of the Bell or no. Full Story
Farewell to an advocate for Rockdale
This week I would like to say farewell to a good friend of Rockdale—Ken Cooke. He and his family have moved to Victoria for a great opportunity for he and Christine. And though I am so proud for them that they have found this wonderful opportunity I am sad too that Rockdale has lost an advocate and strong voice for the town. Full Story
