‘Most wanted’ suspect nabbed

CA MERON—A 27-year-old Cameron man considered “armed and dangerous” was arrested w it hout i nc ident last week after a year-long search.

He had been listed as Milam County’s Most Wanted Person, according to Lt. Kris Stringer of the Cameron Police Department.

Stringer said the Milam County Sheriff’s department, Cameron Police and Constable John Anderle had been searching for Simmons “who was on the run for over a year, eluding law enforcement.”

Stringer said Simmons was taken into custody Sept. 1 after an “intense” investigation led to the area of MLK Boulevard and West 10th Street in Cameron.

Simmons was taken into custody, then transported to the nearby Milam County Jail.

He was convicted of a November, 2005, aggravated robbery in connection with a home invasion in which a man with a pistol forced his way into a Cameron residence.

Simmons was prosecuted by District Attorney Kerry Spears and convicted of aggravated robbery in 20th District Court. He drew a 20-year sentence.

“But he bonded out during appeal process and then failed to appear in court for his appeal hearing,” Stringer said.

Following that action, Simmons was listed at the top of the Milam County Law Enforcement Most Wanted list.
