Graveside services for Frederick Carter Newton Sr., 85, of Rockdale were held Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at I.O.O.F. Cemeter y in Rockdale w ith Rev. Janie Kirt Morris of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Houston officiating.

Mr. New ton died Tuesday, Aug. 31, at Select Specialty Hospital in Houston.

He was born Sept. 11, 1924, in Rockdale to James O. Newton and Annie (Rumple) Newton.

He married Patricia McBride on June 3, 1945, in Houston.

Mr. New ton was the 1942 valedictorian and class president at Rockdale High School.

He enrolled at Texas A&M and was called to active duty in 1943. He received his wings and commission in the Air Corp, flying 35 combat missions over Germany.

Mr. Newton retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1974 with the rank of colonel after serving 31 years. He then worked for Global Marine Drilling Co. for 20 years until his retirement.

Mr. Newton was a Houston resident for 32 years and was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Houston.

He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and traveling.

Mr. Newton was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son and daughter, Lawrence R. Newton and Malinda A. Newton; and two brothers, Boswell Newton and Charles “Tip” Newton.

Survivors are his wife, Pat Newton of Houston; two sons, Car ter “R ick” New ton Jr. of Tucson, Arizona, Steve Newton of Houston; a daughter, Kimberly Newton of Los Angeles; and a grandson, Oscar James Newton of Los Angeles.
