VistaCare’s Goodwin named CNA of the year

Goodwin Goodwin As she celebrates her 15th year of service with Temple’s VistaCare Hospice, Certified Nursing Assistant Dana Goodwin is also being honored being honored on a national scale.

Goodwin was recently named the CNA of the Year by the National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses (NBCHPN).

“This is the certify- ing agency associated with the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association,” explained Dr. Ronald Crossno, National Medical Director for Odyssey HealthCare, parent company of VistaCare. “It does all the advanced practice nurse certifications, so this is a very prestigious award. I am so proud of Dana and the Temple site,” he added.

Goodwin, who was nominated for the award by her associates and voted on by the national board, began her career with VistaCare in 1995 in Temple. She earned her certification in hospice and palliative care in 2007. Some of her patients are in Rockdale homes and nursing facilities.

“Dana is ver y deser ving of this recognition,” commented VistaCare’s local Executive Director Robin Van Sickle. “We extend our sincere congratulations to Dana for this outstanding accomplishment.”

Loved and respected by those she works with, Dana’s patients “literally cry if she takes time off,” Dr. Crossno said.

Goodwin will receive her award in Februar y at the NBCHPN meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia.
