City bans ‘synthetic marijuana’
4-1-1 council vote ends (for now) squabble over Chamber of Commerce records
It may be fake marijuana but there are now real penalties for possessing it in Rockdale.
City Council members Monday voted unanimously to ban synthetic marijuana, an increasingly popular substance in current drug culture and one that has already appeared in town, according to Police Chief Thomas Harris.

Rockdale High School’s annual homecoming parade was set for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, assembling downtown near First Baptist Church (behind The Reporter).

Paper recycling bin in new place
With a construction project ahead at the Milam County One-Stop Center’s parking lot, Rockdale’s paper recycling bin has been moved to a new home.
The new location is the north side of the First Christian Church parking lot, corner Bell and Burleson Streets. The bin is maintained by Crown Garden Club of Rockdale. Full Story
Search ends with suicide discovery
A missing person call to Rockdale firefighters and Milam County Sheriff ’s Department ended with the discovery of a teen’s suicide last Wednesday.
Deputy Sheriff Chris White said the body of Justin Keith Bailey, a 16-year-old Rockdale High School junior, was discovered about 8:30 p.m. in a secluded rural area near his home. Full Story

Friday deadine as group sells shirts in memory of classmates
With recent tragedies involving Rockdale students, local residents have taken an interest in an upcoming “Out of the Darkness” community walk, sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
