Luminant, IBEW in contract talks
Pacts to cover 245 hourly employees
Luminant and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2078 have begun labor negotiations on separate contracts to cover 245 IBEW employees at Sandow Power Plant Units 4 and 5 and Luminant’s Three Oaks Mine.
Ronnie Burrough, Local 2078 business manager, said the two negotiating teams began four days of sessions on Tuesday and will continue through Friday. Full Story
United Way sets $50,000 drive goal
Directors expect UW to meet 2009 requests
The South Milam County United Way has set a $50,000 goal for its 2010 campaign, according to Raymon Puente, organization president.
Eighteen entities will benefit from the 2010 drive, which gets under way in October.
The $50,000 goal is the same as last year’s in a scaled-down post-Alcoa era and Puente says South Milam UW expects to meet that goal. Full Story

Here comes the election
Mail-in ballots available; Oct. 5 last day for registration
Ready or not, here comes the general election.
Balloting is Nov. 2 but the Milam County Clerk’s office is already accepting applications for ballots by mail.
Oct. 5 is the final day to register to vote in time for the general election.
And early voting is less than four weeks away. It begins Monday, Oct. 18. Full Story

A former Rockdale ISD teacher expressed concerns over issues ranging from suicide to administrator salaries to school trustees Monday.

5th Run for the Kay ahead on Saturday

Anti-suicide walk Saturday at Tiger Field
A group of Rockdale students have organized a suicide prevention walk from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Tiger Field, according to spokesperson Brenda Santellano.
RHS has had two students, Benjamin Pelzel and Justin Bailey, commit suicide in the last four months. Full Story
