Cookin’ it up for the Rockdale Fair

Fair time is almost here, so get your entries ready for the Rockdale Fair Home Economics Department. Lots of activities at the October 14-16 Rockdale Fair. There are no entry fees for the Home Economics Department. All Milam County residents ages five and up can enter multiple items to show off their talents. The Home Economics Department will be conducted in the New Salem Building on the Rockdale Fair grounds. The New Salem Extension Education Association Club members will be awarding cash awards to youth grand and reser ve champion winners.

Beginner, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior Grand Champion winners will receive $15 each and Reserve Champion winners will receive $10 each. No cash awards will be provided to baked goods, diabetic baked goods and decorated cakes for any age group.

Schedule of event for the 2010 Rockdale Fair home economics contest:

Wednesday, Oct. 13

• 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.,

- Check-in for the following divisions: afghan, artistic arrangement, canned food, Christmas craft, clothing, collection, creative arts & crafts, folk art, handwork, homemade wine, horticulture, needlework, painting, photography, pictures, porcelain, produce, quilt I (machine quilted, any size), quilt II (hand quilted, any size), scrapbooking, woodworking

• 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

- Set-up for group exhibits

Thursday, Oct. 14

• 9 a.m. to noon

-Continue check-in for all divisions except (baked goods, diabetic baked goods and decorated cake) and set-up for group exhibits

• Noon to 3 p.m.

-Exhibit area will be closed during judging

• 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

-Exhibits open to the public (as soon as ribbons are in place)

Friday, Oct. 15 • 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

-Exhibits open to the public

• 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

-Check-in for the following divisions: baked goods, diabetic baked goods food, decorated cake

• 10 a.m. to noon

-Judging of baked and diabetic goods & decorated cake

• 1:30 p.m.

-Pictures of Best of Show Grand and Reserve Champion winners

• 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

-Check-out and pick-up for all baked goods, diabetic baked goods and decorated cake division entries. (All baked goods, diabetic baked goods and decorated cake entries not picked-up by 5 p.m. will become property of the Fair.)

Saturday, Oct. 16 • 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

-Exhibits open to the public

Sunday, Oct. 17

• 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

-Check-out and pick-up for all divisions

Monday, Oct. 18

• 9 a.m. to noon

-Check-out and pick-up for all divisions
