Hospital board gets new member
The Rockdale Hospital District board of directors has its second new member of the year.
Rev. Dennis Brooks took part in Monday’s regular session at Richards Memorial Hospital. He replaces Larry Jackson, who has moved from Rockdale.
Earlier this year Dr. John M. Weed III, board president, stepped down. Board member Carl Hudson became new president and Terry Browning was appointed to fill the vacancy.
Dr. Weed was present at Monday’s meeting, in his capacity as hospital medical director, to deliver a monthly report.
Board members learned next month’s sales tax check will be the final one. The district has surrendered its sales tax which now goes to the new Rockdale Municipal Development District.
MARC CENTER— After hearing a report by board member Mike Vance, directors okayed a resolution declaring the district’s intent to legally donate the land now occupied by the Milam Association for Retarded Citizens (MARC) Center to the organization.
The facility stands on the RMH campus but Blackhawk Health Care, which operates Rockdale’s health care facilities, is in the process of buying the hospital and its property.
Vance said the land has been re-platted and the 0.819 acres on which the MARC Center stands has been “carved out” of the RMH property.
“It’s our intention to make a gift of that property to the MARC Center and board action is required,” he said.
ASSISTED LIVING— Directors heard the hospital’s assisted living wing now has nine residents with five on a waiting list.
