Critics, county judge exchange words during public hearing
After thousands of words, pro and con, in past weeks about the proposed $16.3-million Milam County budget and 60-cent tax rate, both were approved Monday in a unanimous vote of county commissioners.
That vote was preceded by a 15-minute public hearing in which more words were exchanged, some conciliatory, some confrontational. Full Story

Fifth 5K grosses 3K for The Kay
RHS cross country team members win overall honors
The fifth annual Kay Theatre 5K Run/Unrun grossed $3,000 toward restoration of the Rockdale landmark as about 60 persons participated in the event Saturday.
That means the event has raised about $43,000 in its four-year history. The previous three runs netted a combined $40,000. Full Story

Tiger offense continues to struggle in third straight loss
MADISONVILLE—This time, nobody can blame it on the field.
With the memories of a sloppy playing surface from last year’s game at Mustang Field in the back of their minds, the Rockdale Tigers continued to play like their offense was stuck in the mud.

Fall began last week and with it came cool weather. What a wonderful change and such a lift from the hot days we have been experiencing. Manor Oaks Nursing Home and the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a heater drive for the needy, chamber president Denise Doss announced.
