Pageants, roping will start Fair 5 days early
Pageants w ill be held in the RHS A ud itor iu m Saturday, Oct. 9 and t here w ill also be team roping that day at Fair Park.
Action in the Roping & Cutting club arena at the park continues Sunday, Oct. 10, with two barrel racing events.
Fair weekend is Oct. 14-16.
MISS TEXAS— Ashley Melnick of Fort Worth, Miss Texas 2010, will be mistress of ceremonies for the Miss Rockdale Fair Queen Pageant, which gets under way at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 7.
She will return for the actual Fair weekend, riding in the Oct. 16 parade and attending numerous events.
Melnick, who graduated from Southlake Carroll High School and is an honor student at TCU, lists autism as her “Miss Texas platform issue.”
She graduated high school at the same time as her older brother, who has autism.
Melnick is a performer, who impersonates pop singers, and is a composer and lyricist.
The Fair Children’s Pageant gets under way at 9 a.m. at the auditorium with doors opening at 8:30.
ROPING, BARRELS— Books on the Oct. 9 team roping event open at 3 p.m. with roping beginning at 4.
On Sunday, Oct. 10, barrel race exhibitions begin at 12-noon with 4D open barrel racing at 3 p.m.
There is no park admission charge for the Oct. 9-10 events.
TICKETS— Fair season tickets will admit the bearer to both pageants Oct. 9 and a special $5 “pageants only” ticket will be sold at the door that day.
Season tickets are priced at $20 for adults and $15 for those 55 and older or 8-12.
Child ren 7 and under are admitted free.

Daily gate admission during the Fair will be $15 for adults or $10 for those 55 and older or 8-12, with children 7 and under admitted free.
