Reporter/Mike Brown The fifth annual Kay Theatre 5K Run/Unrun grossed $3,000 toward restoration of the Rockdale landmark as about 60 persons participated in the event Saturday.

That means the event has raised about $43,000 in its four-year history. The previous three runs netted a combined $40,000.

Peggy Perry, race organizer, said the 2010 run basically represents “starting over” for the run, which relied heavily on employees of Alcoa’s Rockdale Operations in past years.

Both overall winners were members of coach Liz Galloway’s cross country teams.

Juan Rubio captured the men’s run in 17:43 with teammate Jacob Gerren taking second in 19:18.

Melv in Tomek of Round Rock, last year’s overall winner, was third in 19:43.
