20th annual Lions Club golf tourney set Oct. 2

The Rockda le Noon Lions Club’s 20th annual scholarship scramble golf tournament will be held at the Rockdale Country Club Saturday, Oct. 2.

Teams will be grouped by handicap in a men’s and women’s scramble. Entries are limited to the first 36 players and players 65 years or older will use the senior tees. Play begins at 9 a.m. and there is a sign up sheet at the Country Club.

Entry fee is $60 per player and includes a grilled hamburger lunch and prizes. Two mulligans are available for $5 each. All proceeds benefit the Lions local college scholarship fund. 15th Schneider roping set for October 1-2

The 15th annual Maggie Schneider Memorial Scholarship Fund Team Roping will be held Friday and Saturday, Oct. 1-2, at the Joey and Phyllis Hiney Ranch in the Salty community.

The event also includes a jackpot barbecue cookoff.

Organizers Richard and Cheryl Schneider listed events as follows:

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 1

7 p.m.—Dance with margarita and salsa jackpot contest.

9 p.m.—Bikini barrel race, followed by steer saddling contest.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 2

• Barbecue cookoff starts early.

10 a.m.—Team roping starts and continues all day.

2 p.m.—Jackpot horseshoe and washer pitching contest.

FEES—Entry fee for the barbecue cookoff is $75 for brisket, chicken and pork ribs and $25 for cook’s choice.

Margarita and salsa jackpot entry fee is $25 each. “You may enter multiple times but all entries must be made fresh and on site.”

Horseshoe and washer pitching fees are $25 per team.

“There will be no trophies given in the above jackpots. Payback is 60 percent of entry fee,” the Schneiders said.

Entry forms may be picked up at BS Tire in Thorndale.

PRIZES—Fund-raising prizes are:

1. 30-60 Remington deer rifle with scope; 2. four 255/75R15 car tires; 3. P235/75R car tires. 4. $100 gift card to BS Tire; 5. $100 gift card to Thorndale Meat Market.

6. $100 gift card to Thorndale Meat Market; 7. $100 gift card to Walmart; 8. $100 gift card to Walmart; 9. Dinner for six at Downtown Cafe in Thorndale, valued at $80.

10. $25 TR hot sausage from Thorndale Meat Market; 11. $20 gift card to Schroeder’s Place; 12., Cooper Tire merchandise.

Tickets may be purchased at area businesses in Thorndale and Rockdale.

“Bubba Grimm, at Schroeder’s Place has sold the most tickets over the past 15 years,” the Schneiders said.
