Negotiations to resume for Luminant, IBEW
Labor contract negotiations between Luminant and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2078 are set to resume Wednesday.
Two contracts are expiring this year.
One covering hourly employees in Sandow Power Plant Units 4 and 5 expires Oct. 24 and another covering hourly employees in the Three Oaks Mine expires Nov. 15. Full Story
Thorndale Chamber sets candidates night
THORNDALE–The Thorndale A rea Chamber of Commerce (TACC) will host a Meet the Candidates for Precinct 4 residents at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18.
Candidates, both county-wide and Precinct 4, will be invited to respond to a list of questions.

Milano sets date for trick-or-treat
MILANO–The city of Milano has designated its date for trickor treating for Saturday, Oct. 30, according to city secretary Carolyn Vinton.
Milano High School’s trunkor treat event, featuring trunks of candy and Halloween goodies, will be held Oct. 30 as well from 4-6 p.m. Full Story
Community festival Oct. 29th at KC Hall
A Community Fall Festival has been scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at the Rockdale KC Hall.
The event, hosted by local businesses and organizations, is free and includes prizes, games, treats and a free hot dog meal for children, according to Rodney Barcak, spokesman.
He said the alcohol-free event includes a free hot dog meal and drinks for the kids. Full Story
City-wide clean up this weekend in Milano
MILANO–A city-wide clean up is planned in Milano for Oct. 6-10, according to city secretary Carolyn Vinton. Luggers will be placed on the lot across from the Milano Civic Center.
Residents are urged to take this opportunity to clean up their properties, as efforts are being made to begin enforcing the adopted trash ordinance. Full Story
Chamber, nursing home set heater drive
Manor Oaks Nursing Home is sponsoring a drive to obtain electric home heaters for needy families this winter, according to Denice Doss, president of the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.
She said anyone interested in making donations may take them to the Chamber’s rock house office at 1203 West Cameron Avenue or to Manor Oaks Nursing Home at 600 South Wilcox. Full Story
DPS investigates vehicle-deer accident
No injuries and moderate damages were reported in a vehicledeer accident investigated Saturday by the DPS.
Trooper Erik Gaston said a vehicle driven by Cynthia Burkhalter of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, collided with a deer at 8:55 p.m. on US 77 south of Rockdale. Full Story
‘Ride for the Cure’ planned here Oct. 23
The first annual “Ride for the Cure” benefitting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 23, at Cliff’s Tavern in downtown Rockdale.
“The ride is for motorcycles, hot rods and antique cars but all vehicles are welcome,” said Pam King, organizer. Full Story

Buckholts VFD sets Thursday dedication

New superintendent on the job in Buckholts
New Buckholts ISD Superintendent Dr. James Bartosh assumed his new duties this week.
Dr. Bartosh replaces longtime superintendent Kent Dutton who left in the summer to resume a teaching career.
Dr. Bartosh, a Taylor native and Bartlett area resident, is a 31 year veteran of education. Full Story
Fall weather continues with only one ‘90’ high
Cool fronts keep dipping down and bringing gorgeous weather to the Rockdale area.
Highs of only 77 and 78 were recorded Sunday and Monday and lows in the 50s have been logged six of the past eight days.
Only 90-degree high in the past week was an even 90 on Thursday, a 31-degree warmup from a 59- degree low that morning. Full Story
