Ensor earns A&M bachelor’s degree

COLLEGE STATION–Matthew L. Ensor of Rockdale earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University during summer commencement ceremonies.

Ensor earned his bachelor’s of science degree in Ag Leadership and Development. Diplomas were awarded to more than 1,600 Texas A&M University graduates during summer commencement ceremonies.

Salazar on Texas A&M Dean’s list

COLLEGE STATION–Kayla M. Salazar of Rockdale has been named to the Dean’s Honor Roll at Texas A&M University for the 2010 summer semester, recognizing her for outstanding academic performance. She is a senior psychology major.

The Dean’s Honor Roll recognizes students taking at least 12 semester hours during the summer semester who have maintained a 3.75 or higher grade point (GPR) out of a possible 4.0.

Milano PATCH Club holding ‘Kiss the Pig’ fund-raiser

The Milano Elementary PATCH Club is sponsoring a district-wide “kiss the pig” contest. Teachers at all three MISD schools have envelopes in the front offices for students and the public to donate funds.

One person from each campus with the most money raised will “kiss the pig” at the Friday, Oct. 8 pep rally. All proceeds will go to the PATCH Club and their efforts for Milano ISD students.

The PATCH Club has also set its October meeting for Tuesday, Oct. 12. The meeting will get underway at 6 p.m. in the elementary school library.

Thorndale PTO dinner fund-raiser Oct. 8

Thor nda le Pa rent-Teacher Organization (PTO) will hold a spaghetti dinner Friday, Oct. 8 at the school cafeteria. Serving begins at 5 p.m. until sold out.

Tickets are on sale now at Thorndale Elementary for $7 per plate. Class offered to learn English for parents

Parents of English Language Learners will have an opportunity to learn English themselves through a class offered to the community.

“This is an opportunit y to learn English, ask questions, learn how to help your child with schoolwork and make new friends,” Susan Boyd 21st CCLC coordinator said.

Classes are on Tuesday evening from 6-8 in Rockdale Elementary School, room 37.

THS jazz boys make all-region band

Thorndale High School band members Matthew Larkin, Coby Larkin,and Matthew Green have been selected to the All-Region Jazz Band. The trio were selected for the honor after tryouts held Sept. 18 in Wimberley.

These musicians are directed by Scott Simmons.

TAKS exit level for outof school examinees

Rockdale High School will offer the TAKS Exit Level Exams next month for out-of-school examinees, Cathy Ormsby, RISD testing coordinator said. Tests dates are Oct. 19 (ELA), Oct. 20 (mathematics), Oct. 21 (science) and Oct. 22 (social studies).

Individuals who are no longer enrolled in school and who have not previously met minimum expectations on all sections of the TAKS test, but who have met all other graduation requirements, may register to retake the necessary sections(s). All out-of-school TAKS examinees should notify the high school counselors of their intent to test.

On the day(s) of testing, examinees should arrive at 8 a.m., reporting to the high school office. Examinees must present picture identification, such as a driver’s license, school ID, DPS ID, etc. to test. Examinees will not be able to take the test(s) without a picture ID.
