The statew ide conference, sponsored by Region VII Education Service Center based in Kilgore is entitled Travel the Trail. Four outstanding historiians discussed the history of the Trail. The speakers included El Camino board member Richard Santos on the southernmost part; section two was lectured on by Dr. Francis Galan from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio; third section of the trail was discussed by Barbara Parmley from Texas Parks and Wildlife; and Dr. Archie McDonald of Nacogdoches discussed the northernmost part of the Trail.

Following each presentation was a ten minute interpretative program featuring certain towns located along the Trail. Rockdale, one of the towns selected in the original proposal, was discussed by the two teams from Rockdale, Dr. Estell said.
