Marks of a ChristianWhat are the marks of a Christian? Colossians 3:12 says: “Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies (or compassion), kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long-suffering. (KJV)
We don’t find many people who live up to these standards on a day-to-day basis. I know I don’t. I fall short many times and have to ask the Lord to forgive me for my short-comings.
All of us, at one time or another, lose our temper, say something we wish we could take back, fail to help a friend in need. We are human. That’s why we need a Saviour.
When we do find someone who lives up to the standards that God sets for us, we have found a real treasure. I recently lost such a treasure. One of my aunts, her name was Sybil, lived up to this scripture. I know that she had many sad times in her life, we all do, but whenever I was around her, she was always laughing and full of joy. She was proud of her children and grandchildren, she was proud of all of her nieces and nephews, but she was also thankful for Jesus. She told me this many times.
My aunt was somewhat of a mentor to me. Even though we did not live close and did not get to see each other very often, I could always call and talk to her about anything that was on my heart. I sent her some Bible studies that I had written and she called me and let me know that they had blessed her heart.
She called me one time on my birthday and said, “I just remembered it was your birthday and wanted to call you and let you know we love you.”
Proverbs 31:28 says, “Her children arise up, and call her blessed.” (KJV). I did not get to go to Sybil’s funeral because of my own health, but I am sure it was a “standing room only” service. She not only loved others, but others loved and respected her. The special One who loved her was Jesus. He visited her on her death bed and held her hand. She said He did, and I believe her.
Do you know Jesus as Lord of your life? Can you look forward to going home to be with Him when your life on this earth ends? Can you now have joy in the midst of sorrow and know that there is a better day coming?
You can. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world (that includes you) that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (KJV).
If you do not know Jesus as Lord of your life, turn your life over to Him right now, and when you come to the end of this life, He will take you by the hand and escort you Home.
God loves you and The Country Preacher and I do, too.
