County judge race leads spending
Candidates list more than $16,000 in expenses, over $11,000 donations
With one month to go before the Nov. 2 general election the race for Milam County Judge is generating the most expenditures and the most donations.
Through the Oct. 1 reporting period, incumbent Democrat Frank Summers and Republican challenger Dave Barkemeyer have combined to spend more than $16,000 and have listed more than $11,000 in donations. Full Story
First Fair events scheduled Saturday
Tickets now on sale throughout Rockdale
The “early bird” weekend of the 35th Rockdale Fair unreels Saturday with two beauty pageants in the RHS Auditorium and action in the Fair Park arena.
Seventeen candidates will vie for the title of Miss Rockdale Fair Queen 2010 at 7:30 p.m.

Stock show entries up 35%
The 35th Rockdale Fair, which gets rolling for good on Oct. 14-16, will feature its largest market show in years.
“We have a 35 percent increase in the market show this year,” Monica Garrison, Rockdale Fair Association board member, said. She listed them as follows:

Drug bust nabs suspected dealer
A Friday raid at a Rice Street location resulted in the arrest of a man investigators believe was selling crack cocaine from the residence.
Ivery Joe Williams, 60, was charged with manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, more than 4 and less than 200 grams, a first-degree felony. Full Story
‘No contest’ plea made in Carranza death
A 32-year-old Rockdale man pleaded “no contest” Monday in a case involving a 2009 vehicle-pedestrian death near Thorndale and the court will decide his fate.
Prosecutor Kerry Spears said David Brian Jeter was originally scheduled for a 20th District Court trial, to begin on Monday, but he decided to make an open plea of “no contest” to the court . Full Story

A Red Cross blood drawing is scheduled here Tuesday, Oct. 12 at Peace Lutheran Church fellowship hall, according to Jo Pruett, spokesperson.
