Stock show entries up 35%
The 35th Rockdale Fair, which gets rolling for good on Oct. 14-16, will feature its largest market show in years.
“We have a 35 percent increase in the market show this year,” Monica Garrison, Rockdale Fair Association board member, said. She listed them as follows:
Turkeys— 25 exhibitors with 44 entries.
Steers— 20 exhibitors with 32 entries.
Lambs— 38 exhibitors with 56 entries.
Swine— 55 exhibitors with 106 entries.
Goats— 72 exhibitors with 109 entries.
Broilers— 22 exhibitors with 33 entries.
Rabbits— 52 exhibitors with 81 entries.
That represents 491 animals entered in the 2010 show, up from 341 in 2009.
COMMERCIAL— Garrison said there are 17 pens of commercial heifers set to compete, along with 10 breeding meat goat and 12 breeding rabbit entries.
On the Fair’s Thursday night (Oct. 14) a stick horse race for small children gets under way at 6 p.m., followed by the popular “mutton bustin” at 6:30, then 2D barrel racing categories for 11 and 12-year olds.
