Reporter/Mike Brown Perfect weather, and the aroma of barbecue heaven, greeted celebrants at the annual La Escuelita Barbecue Cookoff Saturday.

Johnnie Diaz, spokesperson for the event, held at the historical former schoolhouse just east of Rockdale, listed winners from the day of cooking, and other competitions, as follows:

Horseshoes— 1. Fred Silva and Virlenge Straley, Round Rock; 2. Diego and David Montelongo, Rockdale; Bryan Silva and Angie Hagar, Round Rock.

Washers— 1. Fred and Bryan Silva, Round Rock; 2. Chad Thomas and Lisa Bagaad, Round Rock; 3. Nick and Amanda Montelongo, Rockdale.

COOKOFF

Beans—1. B Finger Lickin’, Chad Thomas, Pilar Moreno, Ed Cano, Austin Moreno, Round Rock; 2. Bubba Beans, Johnny, James and Joe Cavazos, Rockdale.
