Family ties boost Lions win

Reporter/Bill Martin With the first four teams separated by just two shots, a team led by the father-son duo of Eddie and Waylon Boyd walked away with the hotly contested championship at the 20th annual Rockdale Noon Lions Club Golf Tourna- ment.

The Boyds, along with Mark Michalka and Lisa Coelho, fired in a nineunder par 62 to take the first place prize.

They held off three teams that were within two shots of first place.

The tournament raised approximately $2,500 for college scholarships for local youth.

“The Lions Club, including tourney committee Allan Miller, Randy Fletcher, Denise Doss, Albert Jordan and Kathy Martin would like to thank all of the sponsors and players for their generous support,” said tournament chairman Ron Montgomery.

“Special thanks to Doug Ellis for such a beautiful Rockdale golf course and Homer Mowdy and the country club staff for their help in preparation for the tourney.”

Team winners were: 1st (62)—Waylon Boyd, Mark Michalka, Eddie Boyd and Lisa Coelho—62

2nd (63)—Jerry Waggoner, Billy Galbreath, Jr., Tommy Grimes and Monroe Jungman

3rd (64) —Ben Ack ley, Joe Wayne Cleveland, Sandy Summers and Bill Martin (won on a score card play-off).

Special prize winners included:

Closest to the hole—Jerr y Cass

Most accurate drive—Homer Mowdy
