Steady scoring boosts 8th grade victory over Salado

Quarterback Dylan McCartney star ted t he T igers (2-1- 1) steady st ream of sc or ing with a 10-yard touchdown trip and after McCartney’s pass to Pearce Loth on the two-point conversion, led 8-0.

The score was set up by a 30-yard pass from McCartney to Dillon Bankston.

In the second quarter, McCartney fired a 15-yard touchdown pass to Loth for a 14-0 lead.

The Tigers kept up the pace in the third quarter, when after a Bankston interception on four th-and-goal, McCar tney dialed up Loth long distance for a 95-yard bomb and a 20-0 advantage.

Follow ing a Preston Ehler f umble recover y, t he T igers tallied some trickery as Ramey found Whitsel on a half back option pass from 40 yards out to set up Ramey’s 20-yard scamper to seal the victory.

Offensively, RB Dansby, OL Jared Gerren and C Quondrous Ayala were oustanding.

Seventh grade

Falling behind 16-0 at halftime, Rockdale couldn’t catch up in a 16-6 loss to fall to 0-2 on the season.

Quarterback Andrew Perez prevented the shutout in the final period when he broke free for a 71-yard touchdown run.

Offensive standouts included fullback Chase Pickett, receiver (20-yard run on reverse) and running back Jonathan Ramey.

Defensively, tackle Jacob Aguirre, defensive back Michael Turman, tackle Kacey Waxler (fumble recovery) and defensive back Zach Zoeller (interception) were the leaders.
