4-H NEWS
The date for Milam 4-Hers to show off their cooking talents at the County 4-H Food Show is set for Oct. 26 at Bea’s Kitchen in Cameron. Registration will start at 5:15 p.m. and continue throughout the judging time. Judging will take place from 5:30–6:30 p.m.

4-Hers (5 years and up) interested in foods can enter the county food show. Just cook your favorite food and bring it along with a serving utensil to the food show. A team of judges will ask you questions about your dish and the nutritional value.

To prepare for the judging, resource materials are available at the Milam County Extension Office. It is not that hard and it will give you an opportunity to show off your cooking talents.

Entry forms and study materials are available at the extension office and on the county website http://milam-co.tamu. edu/ under 4-H. Submit an entry form with your recipe to the extension office by Oct. 22. This project will give you a great start in 4-H.

FOOD CHAL Juniors and intermediates must do the Food Challenge to participate in the District Food Show. Seniors can elect to do the food challenge and/or the regular food show to compete on the district level.

During our count y food show we will do a Food Challenge as an activity. Everyone will get a taste of the activity to see if you want to be part of the contest at the District Food Show on Dec. 9.

Complete guidelines will be available during the county food show, but basically your team will be given a list of ingredients and the equipment to prepare the dish. Your team will make a dish and then do a short presentation telling the nutrition of the dish, food safety guidelines used in preparation, steps of preparation and the cost of the dish. You will be given resource materials to assist you with your presentation.

Enter the county food show so you will have the opportunity to be on a food challenge team for district. We can have senior teams as well as junior/ intermediate teams.
