Record sale, crowds at Fair
Livestock show totals $218,200; two-night crowd estimate is 15,000

Those are among the many highlights of the 35th annual Rockdale Fair which wrapped up Saturday night with a whopper of a livestock sale to benefit Milam County FFA and 4-H youth.
The sale netted an all-time record $218,200, well above the old record of $201,766.75 set in 2007. Full Story
571 vote early during first two days
Early voting for the Nov. 2 general election continues weekdays at four locations in Milam County after 571 cast ballots in a heavy turnout the first two days.

IBEW to vote on new pacts
Members of power plant and mining bargaining units of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2078 will vote on proposed two-year labor contracts with Luminant Thursday and Friday at the union hall east of Thorndale on US 79. Full Story
Alcoa may sell 11,000 acres at Rockdale site
Buyer is marketer of industrial property
Alcoa has signed a letter of intent as the first step in a process to sell just over 11,000 acres of Rockdale Operations to a “green” development group.
Velocita Holdings is a Florida group which acts as a middleman in developing green energy, including biofuels and other alternative sources, according to Jim Hodson, Alcoa spokesman. Full Story
Big day for El Camino Real
Thursday just could be the biggest day for the historic El Camino Real trail near Rockdale in about 250 years.
The third annual membership meeting of the El Camino Real National Historic Trail Association will be held, beginning at 9 a.m. at Apache Pass and continuing through the afternoon. Full Story
APACHE PASS SETS ‘ART OUTSIDE’
Look for another huge crowd in the Rockdale area this weekend as Apache Pass hosts the “Art Outside” event Friday through Sunday.
