Reporter/Teresa Ging Thorndale’s volleyball team are just trying to stay strong and finish out the season as they fell to No. 11 ranked Cameron Yoe and Lago Vista in District 27-2A action this week.

They will finish up the 2010 season next Tuesday.

The Lady Dogs (6-19, 1-11) had a tough test Tuesday night to a hard hitting Lady Yoe team.

Thorndale fell in straight sets 25-15, 25-6, 25-18.

Shelbie Maupin had seven assists, three aces and two digs to lead Thorndale. Shelby Stolte added four kills, two digs and one block.

Thorndale’s junior varsit y squad won in three sets, while the Lady Dogsfreshman team lost in three sets.

The L ady Dogs dropped a straight sets match on the road Saturday in Lago Vista. Thorndale lost 8-25, 16-25, 19-25.

Olivia Atkins led the team with seven blocks, two kills and two digs. Mirah Knapek and Marlene Hall had stand out games with five digs each.

Lady Dogs head coach Lisa Strelsky said the team is still looking for positive things with just two games remaining

“I keep telling the girls we just have to fight through the end of the season,” Strelsky said.

Thorndale’s junior varsity and freshmen teams also lost in straight sets at Lago Vista.

The Lady Dogs will host Lexington on Friday at Bulldog Gym for three games starting at 4:30 p.m.

Thorndale will finish out the season by hosting No. 10 and district leading Rogers on Tuesday, Oct. 26. Those games start at 5 p.m.
