It would be hard to overstate the positive economic impact for the Rockdale area if the vision of Velocita Holdings founder and CEO Doug Hutchison comes to pass on land now owned by Alcoa.

Tuesday vote will decide judge race
County, state offices on election ballot
Milam County voters will go to the polls Tuesday to decide one of the most intense county-judge races in decades.
Three-term incumbent Frank Summers, a Democrat, is challenged by former Cameron Mayor Dave Barkemeyer, a Republican.

IBEW okays Luminant pacts
Members of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2078 approved a pair of two-year labor contracts with Luminant in voting Thursday and Friday at the Local 2078 union hall.
IBEW Business Manager Ronnie Burrough said contracts reflecting Sandow Power Plant Units 4-5 and the Three Oaks Mine were okayed in voting by separate bargaining units. Full Story
Cameron PD tabs Retchloff
Recently “retired” Chief Deputy Sheriff Ted Retchloff of Rockdale isn’t quite ready to hang up his badge yet.
On Monday Retchloff was named interim police chief in Cameron and was sworn in that afternoon.
The appointment, by the Cameron City Coun- cil, followed the surprise resignation of Police Chief Patrick Guffey earlier in the day. Full Story

Early voting ends Friday for election
Early voting for Tuesday’s general election ends Friday at four locations in Milam County. Hours are:
Rockdale—City Hall, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Thorndale—Thorndale ISD Administration Building, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Cameron—Milam County Clerk’s office, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Full Story
Trick-or-treat night Saturday
Sunday is Oct. 31 but trickor treating’s “official” evening in Rockdale will be Saturday, according to the Rockdale Parent-Teacher Organization (P-TO).
Tiffany Prestridge, P-TO president, said trick-or-treat time is from 6 to 8 p.m. and is recommended for ages 12 and under. Full Story
