IBEW okays Luminant pacts
Members of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2078 approved a pair of two-year labor contracts with Luminant in voting Thursday and Friday at the Local 2078 union hall.
IBEW Business Manager Ronnie Burrough said contracts reflecting Sandow Power Plant Units 4-5 and the Three Oaks Mine were okayed in voting by separate bargaining units.
Burrough declined to reveal the vote totals but termed the turnout “very good.”
George Crawford, IBEW District 7 representative, said the contracts reflect a 2-1/2-percent wage increase the first year and a 3 percent raise the second year, in addition to other benefits “mutually agreed upon” by the union and company to improve working conditions.
The contracts affect about 60 employees in the two power plants and about 160 at the Three Oaks Mine in Lee and Bastrop counties.
Burrough said the new power plant contract went into effect Monday and the mining pact will become effective on Nov. 15.
Those are the expiration dates of the old contracts, negotiated in 2007, following the purchase of Three Oaks by Luminant from Alcoa.
