County-wide food drive to benefit pantries, food banks

CAMERON—A county-wide food drive coordinated by the Cameron Loins Club will run from Oct. 24 through Nov. 17. Food collected during this time period will benefit food pantries, local charities, and food banks in the various communities.

Cameron Yoeman Athletic Booster Club is participating in this project. The Booster Club will have a truck parked outside the entrance to Yoe Field on the night of Nov. 5. This is the last home football game of the season with Troy. Fans, students, parents and visitors are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to place in this truck.

Any individual, church, youth group or other organization that wants to participate in this project is welcome to join in this project. Special bags are available if you need them to help get others involved.

Milam County 4-H members will be collecting in all the different communities across the county. Drop off points for the 4-H program include the Milam County Extension Office, 100 East 1st Street in Cameron, and Rockdale Monument Works in Rockdale.

Students in Gause, Buckholts and Milano will be collecting at their schools.Cameron Arts and Service League members and First United Methodist Church of Cameron are both participating in this food drive.

Items that are needed include canned soups, canned chili, canned meat and pasta products such as spaghetti and meat sauce, canned fruits, canned vegetables, all types of canned meat products, macaroni and cheese mixes, peanut butter, small boxes of dry cereal.

Other items such as toilet paper and bar hand soap are also being accepted.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
