Led by County Judge-elect Dave Barkemeyer, the Milam County Republican Party rode the crest of a GOP wave in Texas to its first county-wide victories in modern times.
Barkemeyer outpolled three-term county judge Frank Summers, the incumbent Democrat 3,250 to 2,749 in Tuesday’s spotlight county race, a 54-to-46-percent spread. Full Story

Richards Memorial Hospital is enduring yet another crucial period of financial troubles and Rockdale Hospital District (RHD) directors have not ruled out the possibility of re-examining a property tax.

A Rockdale banker put a different kind of liquid assets on display Saturday at the I&GN Depot Museum.

Rockdale routs Caldwell; Milano gets in with win over Granger
With the entire season on the line, the Rockdale Tigers took control of their own destiny and defeated the Caldwell Hornets 38-15 Friday night at Tiger Field. Milam unemployment numbers down to 10.3%
County workforce still declining; state rate falls to lowest in 2010
Milam County’s jobless rate dropped almost half a percentage point at 10.3 compared to 10.7 this time last September, according to the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).
Milam’s rate was based on a labor force of 11,163 with 10,009 working and 1,154 out of work. Full Story
