Thorndale VFW to hold Veterans Day breakfast

THORNDALE–VFW Hill- Johnson Post 4009 of Thorndale will have a pancake and sausage breakfast at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, post commander Jerry Korn has announced.

“There will be a posting of the colors and an honorary tribute following for those that served their country,” Korn said.

All veterans and their spouses are invited.

Work day Tuesday at Minerva Cemetery

MINERVA–A work session has been set at the Minerva Community Cemeter, association secretary Linda Jenkins announced.

The work day is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Nov. 9.

“Helpers are needed to level headstones, remove dead tree limbs and general maintenance,” Jenkins said.

Relay For Life kickoff slated this weekend

There will be two Relay For Life of Milam County kickoff events this weekend, one each in Rockdale and Cameron, event chair Kim Jeter has announced.

On Saturday, Nov. 6, the Rockdale kickoff will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Walmart parking lot. On Sunday, Nov. 7, the Cameron kickoff event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Brookshire Brothers parking lot.

“We will have cupcakes and drinks available to those who sign up a team and also be selling cupcakes as a fundraiser,” Jeter said.

The group’s next commitee meeting is set for 6:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15 at the community room of Citizens National Bank in Rockdale.

Area Girl Scouts, Brownie Troop meet

Rockdale Girl Scouts had a Halloween/Juliette Low (Found- er of Girl Scouts) Birthday Party at the Girl Scout House on Tuesday, Oct. 26. Girls dressed in costume, played games and ate hot dogs and birthday cake. Girls also roasted marshmallows in the fire pit outside and made smores. A good time had by all.

Rockdale Brownie Troop #9603, v isited the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department for Fire Safety week on Monday, Oct. 25.

Those attending were, Karlee Thompson, Victoria Smith, Hannah Reynosa, Amber Foraker, Rylee Pyeatt, Liliana Lara, Mackenzie Criswell, Heather Ramos, Dejah Oges, Lilly Clark, Bailey Baggerly, Amanda Driver and Beth Montelongo.

The girls were there to earn their Safety Sense Badge. Frank Rubio, assistant fire chief, was on hand to give the girls a tour of the station, a chance to climb onto the fire truck and he discussed fire safety to the group. Girls were also given fire safety books and stickers from Herbie Vaughn, RVFD president.

The girls were escorted by their leaders Sheree Smith and Robyn Wasem. Also in attendance were registered adult members Amanda Thompson, Donna Craig, and Kristi Pyeatt.
