A “Johnny Horton 50th Anniversary Memorial Concert” has been set for 7-11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5 at the Milano High School cafetorium. That night marks the anniversary of the well-known singer’s death on the US 79 overpass in Milano.

There is no charge for the concert and refreshments will be served. Entertainment will feature, but is not limited to Steven Raby and the Can’t Hardly Play Boys, Tommy Horton and The Brazos Valley Boys.

Funds raised at the concert will help with the construction of a monument to honor Horton. The estimated cost of the marker is between $75,000 and $100,000. For more information contact Billy Barnett, 512-429-0262, or Carolyn Vinton, 979-224-0027.

Milano Athletic Booster Club w ill host a spaghetti supper beginning at 5 p.m.Friday, Nov. 5 at the elementary cafeteria before the last home football game of the year. Plates are $5 and include spaghetti, salad, bread, tea and dessert. Student athletes are in charge of bringing the desserts.

If you are interested in helping out in any way, contact Karen Gray, 979-777-3960 or karen@ cunninghamrealestate.com, or Darla Willingham, 512-760-5428. Help support the group that supports our athletes.

Milano ISD’s PATCH (Parent, Teacher, Child) Club has set its next meeting. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9 at the elementary school.

Box tops are such an easy way for the schools to make money, that is why the Milano Elementary PATCH Club is collecting the Educational Box Tops again this year. You can find them on certain food and soup labels.

Just turn them in at the school office or your student can turn them in to their teacher. The school gets money back when they send them in–the more labels, the more money for our students.

Parents, if you are wanting a night out and need a sitter, contact the 2010-11 yearbook staff. The date is Friday, Nov. 19 from 6 p.m. to midnight. There will be snacks, movies and dinner for potty trained through sixth grade children.

Cost is $20 for one child and $10 for each additional child. Contact Milano High School, 512- 455-9333 for more information.

I hope that the children that trick-or-treated on Saturday night had fun. All of my visitors were well behaved and said “thank you.” I like that.
