Whitmore piano students play at UMHB festival

BELTON–Piano students of teacher Dixie Whitmore played Saturday in a Hymn Festival at University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at Belton.

Local students who participated were Ashton Betchan, Brian Blanchard, Emilie Compton, Geritt Davenport, Mattie Fisher, Amy Gardenhire, Julia Harwell, Kauner Howell, Kaybee Nelson, Abigail Olson, Mary Unnasch and Makayla Washington. Each received a superior or excellent rating.

The pur pose of the Hy mn Festival is to encourage young musicians to prepare for service playing and singing in their various churches, nursing homes and community.

This year’s event included 175 plus entries in piano, violin and voice. Whitmore was one of eight judges hearing these students.

The annual event is sponsored by the Central Texas Music Teachers Association of which Whitmore is a member.
