25-year RVFD veteran Vaughan replaces Matous in Monday vote of volunteer firefighters
Herbie Vaughan, who has served in virtually every leadership position in the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department during a 25-year RVFD career, was named fire chief in a meeting of volunteers Monday evening.
Vaughan is also Milam County Precinct 3 constable and will continue to occupy that office, where he has served six years. Full Story

A Horton returns to Milano—50 years later
Tommy Horton’s father rolled into Milano 50 years ago Friday night, but he didn’t come out alive.
That was, of course, the legendary Johnny Horton, country music superstar who lost his life on Milano’s old railroad viaduct when his Cadillac was struck by a drunken college student. The date was Nov. 5, 1960. Full Story

When radio was high-tech Rockdale had a legendar y radio shop, at 227 North Main.
The radios are gone but the address again boasts a business, the culmination of anther dedicated effort by a Rockdale husband-and-wife team who are doing their best to preserve the town’s history, one building at a time. Full Story

Brooks 'Ford Tough' player of the week - Free Access
Rockdale running back 3A standout
With his 324-yard performance against LaGrange on Oct. 22, Rockdale Tiger running back Daniel Brooks was named the Built Ford Tough Player of the Week for Class 3A. His performance enabled the Tigers to overcome a 24-14 third-quarter deficit. The 51-37 victory helped propel Rockdale into the playoffs for the fourth straight year. Full Story

13 new members are ushered in to Hall of Honor
Emotions ran the entire gambit and friends and teammates that
hadn’t seen each other in decades reunited Friday night at the fourth installment of the Rockdale Sports Hall of Honor induction ceremony.
Thirteen new members were inducted into Hall of Honor in front of a packed high school cafeteria, the largest crowd in the four-year history of the event. Full Story

Here we are in November. And the fall weather has been delightful. The cool weather and the time change work together to get me into the holiday spirit.
