‘Shop Rockdale’ first during this holiday season

Saturday the city sponsored a town cleanup and it was held at Fair Park. I had 21 high school students come to help with the cleanup and pickups around town. This great group of young people worked hard and did a good job of cleanup. We went all over town picking up old couches, piles of limbs and trash along the highway.

With the help of high school teacher Karen Muston the group worked hard and made a difference. Thank you to all who came out and thanks to the city as well for offering this free trash dumping to clean up around town. Also Saturday the I&GN Depot had their chili fund-raiser and that was well attended also. They raised over $2,500 to continue their work at the depot. A great day and a lot of involvement.

On Friday, Nov. 19 we have a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. for Caldwell Country, formerly Tranum Country. Come out and visit with Glen Horne and his crew as we welcome this new business to town.

As we enter this busiest time of the year I encourage you to “Shop Rockdale.” We have some great stores with great merchandise that will fill your holiday needs. “Shop Rockdale” first and I think you’ll be surprised at how much of your gift list you can fill.

The Turkey Giveaway has begun and I appreciate the businesses who take part in this each year to give away turkeys. Just listen to KRXT to hear that turkey gobble and win your turkey for your holiday feast. We will run the giveaway until Dec. 10 so listen for that turkey.

Some of our turkey giveaway sponsor are Antique Queens, Attorneys of Texas Title, Inc., Bassler Energy Services, Bland Construction, Bob’s Speedy Lube, and Classic Bank. We appreciate these members and all of our members for their involvement in our Chamber and our town. Be sure and thank them for their generosity when you see them.

Don’t forget about the Richards Memorial Hospital Auxiliary luncheon to be held on Wednesday, Dec. 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. John’s Methodist Church. The cost is $8 and no tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets are available at Richards Memorial Hospital lobby. Come out for a great meal and a time of fellowship.

We are now making plans for our annual “All Aboard the Christmas Express.” We have some changes this year with a Childrens’ Costume Stroll on Friday, Dec. 3 and activities all day Saturday, Dec. 4 with arts and crafts, entertainment, Santa in the depot and the Night Parade at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Be looking for more information as we enter this wonderful holiday time.

Until next time I leave you with this...... The Pilgrims made seven times more graves than huts. No Americans have been more impoverished than these who, nevertheless, set aside a day of thanksgiving.
