Schulz

GIDDINGS—Funeral services for Leroy Schulz, 86, of Temple, formerly of Rockdale and Giddings, were held Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Wilbern Michalk and Rev. Herbert Graf officiating. Burial followed in Giddings City Cemetery.

Mr. Schulz died Wednesday, Nov. 10, at William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home in Temple.

He was born July 14, 1924, in Vernon to Carl and Selma (nee Shoppa) Schulz.

He was baptized July 27, 1924, at Zion Lutheran Church in Vernon and was confirmed on May 15, 1938.

Mr. Schulz was raised, educated and lived in the Lockett community near Vernon.

In 1942, he went to San Diego, California, to work in a defense factory and returned to Vernon in 1943 to enter the Army. He served a year and a half in the States and a year and a half in Europe with the 102nd Artillery, returning home in March 1946.

He married Violet Wolf on Jan. 19, 1947, at Bethany Lutheran Church in the Greens Creek community near Giddings.

They made their home in Vernon, where Mr. Schulz worked at First State Bank and later at an implement dealership as bookkeeper.

In 1952, they moved to Giddings, then to Rockdale, and he worked in accounting for Alcoa.

In 1976, they returned to Giddings.

Mr. Schulz retired from Alcoa in January 1983, after over 30 years of service.

He enjoyed ranching until health problems caused them to move to Temple in 1999.

Mr. Schulz was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arthur and Monroe; a niece, Barbara King; a nephew, Gary Don Schulz; a great-granddaughter, Emma Kate Kesner; and a sister-in-law, Hedy Schulz.

Survivors are his wife, Violet Schulz of Temple; a son, Danny Schulz and wife Sharon of Granbury; a granddaughter, April and husband Steve Kesner and children Tanner and Mackenzie of Pflugerville; a grandson, Justin Schulz and wife Misty and children Russell, Jeremy and Jordyn of Granbury; a nephew, Monroe Schulz Jr. and wife Sharon and their children; three nieces, Donna Rogers, Patsy Tomison and Janet Beard and their spouses and families; and a sister-in-law, Arvie Schulz.
