South Milam UW accepting funding requests

South Milam County United Way (SMUW) is now accepting requests for funds from charitable organizations for 2011.

Connie Schielack, South Milam first vicepresident, said SMUW has set a $50,000 campaign goal for 2011.

She said SMUW is in the process of approving requests from South Milam County 501C3 (non profit) organizations who have applied for funding for the 2011 year.

“If your organization has not been contacted and would like to be considered for funding, contact Tom Puccio at United Way of South Milam County, P.O. Box 189, Rockdale TX 76567 to obtain a funding request,” Schielack said.

“Only charitable 501C-3 (IRS Tax Code) organizations that are active in South Milam County will be considered and individuals will not be eligible for funding,” she said.

ORGANIZATIONS— Schielack said nonprofit organizations approved for SMUW funding in the past included:

Love & Learning Center, the Milano, Black Jack, Rockdale, Thorndale and Minerva Volunteer Fire Departments, Christmas Roundup, Eastside Tutoring, Milam County Child Protective Services, Original Twelve Civic and Social Club.

Also, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Rockdale Christian Services, Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels, South Milam County Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.

Also, Thorndale Cares, South Milam Medical and Dental Fund, Rockdale Multi-Service Center, South Milam Emergency Fund, Thorndale Senior Citizens.

DONATIONS— Schielack said Brookshire Brothers, Jerry Pulley and Ben Ackley sponsored a recent golf tournament and donated $1,200 proceeds to SMUW.

“Also, Tom and Karolyn Puccio made a donation enabling SMUW to finish out funding for 2010,” she said. “The SMUW board appreciates both these donations.”
