Rockdale ISD board sets Tuesday meeting

Rockdale ISD trustees will meet in regular session at 12- noon Tuesday, Dec. 7, in the family consumer science room at Rockdale High School.

Supt. Dr. Howell Wright said items on the agenda include consideration of an assistant superintendent for instruction and administration to replace Penny Curry.

Other agenda items include the 2009-10 audit, district and campus textbook adoption committees and a report of a recent site visit to the Coppell ISD’s New Tech High School.

Medicare, drugs topic for senior citizens

Sue Farrell, a benefits counselor for the Area Agency on Aging of Central Texas (AAACT), will visit the Rockdale Senior Citizens Center Friday to discuss Medicare and other topics of interest to senior citizens.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Farrell asks persons attending to bring their Medicare cards, a list of medications and dosages they are currently taking, their preferred pharmacy and their household income.

AAACT will also screen Medicare beneficiaries concerning eligibility for Low-Income Subsidy (LIS), also known as “Extra Help.”

According to AAACT, senior citizens may qualify for a Medicare program where beneficiaries pay no more than $2.50 for generic prescriptions, $6.30 for brand name drugs.

To qualify, resources must be limited to $12,510 for an individual or $25,010 for a married couple living together and annual income must be limited to $16,245 per individual, $21,855 for married couple living together.

Pearl Harbor Day ceremony set Tuesday

THORNDALE—Hill-Johnson Post 4009, Veterans of Foreign Wars, will host a flag ceremony at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7 to commemorate Pearl Harbor Day.

Kenneth Menzel, spokesman, said the public is inv ited to attend. “Coffee and hot rolls will be served at the post home after the ceremony,” he said.

VFW Post 2010 is located on FM 486 at the northern Thorndale city limits.

Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.

Fire calls listed for South Milam County

Fire calls dispatched from the Rockdale Police Department to South Milam County departments over the past week were listed as follows:

• 4:58 p.m. Nov. 23, grass fire, County Road 436, Thorndale VFD.

• 9:17 p.m. Thursday, power lines arcing, 300 block of Rice, Rockdale VFD.

• 8:56 a.m. Saturday, propane leak, Seventh Street, Rockdale VFD.

• 12:59 p.m. Saturday, out-ofcontrol burn, County Road 450, Thorndale VFD.

• 2:27 p.m. Saturday, Thorndale VFD called out to check on controlled burn, FM 908 north.

• 2:39 p.m. Saturday, grass fire, three miles north of Milano, Texas 36, Milano VFD.

‘Tree of Angels’ ahead Dec. 9th in Cameron

CAMERON—The Milam County Prosecutor’s Office will sponsor a “Tree of Angels” ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 9 in the first f loor courtroom at the county courthouse.

“The Tree of Angels is celebrated each year enabling victims of violent crime, and their families, to place an angel ornament on the Christmas tree in support, or memory of, their loved one,” Prosecutor Kerry Spears said.

Members of the armed services will also be honored.

Hydrant flushing set Wednesday, Dec. 15th

City of Rockdale crews will flush fire hydrants the night of Dec. 15, according to City Manager Kelvin Knauf.

Lines on both sides of Rockdale will be flushed.

Knauf asked residents to run their cold water taps upon arising the next morning until the stream runs clear to remove any lingering sediment.
