‘All aboard the Christmas Express’
Denice Doss
December is here and let the fun begin. I am so excited about all of our festivities in the town and the beginning of the most blessed time of the year. It is funny how this time of the year brings out more charity and good will than any other time. People have a different attitude and love is in the air. So get ready for a great month as we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ and share the joy.

This weekend is Rockdale’s big block party, All Aboard the Christmas Express, and it starts on Friday, Dec. 3. From 5-8 p.m. activities will abound and will include a children’s costume stroll, entertainment, and a luminaria role call, not to mention shopping opportunities in the stores downtown. Go out and shop the specials and check off those items on your shopping list.

Relay For Life is sponsoring the sale of luminarias to kick off the 2011 Relay For Life event. If you would like to buy a luminaria for that, call Kim Jeter at 760-7194 The cost of the luminaria is $5 with all proceeds going to the Relay.

Then on Saturday, the fun continues at 9 a.m. with arts & crafts, entertainment, activities in the Depot, Santa in the depot from 1-5:30 and then the night parade at 6:30 pm. As a special tribute to our area fire departments we have invited them to participate in our parade this year. These volunteers do so much for our communities and it is always nice to honor them for their sacrifices. So an added extra will be the lineup of the fire departments.

There will also be Market Day booths around town including Tisket A Tasket and Antique Queens. Come out for Christmas shopping and a good way to get in the Christmas spirit. Wear your red and green and enjoy Christmas. It will be a great weekend.

Until next time I leave you with this…By being yourself, you put something wonderful in the world that was not there before.
