St. Joseph’s Bazaar set here Saturday
Members of the Ladies Society of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church will hold their annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 4, beginning at 9 a.m.
This annua l event w ill be held at the church’s Education Building on San Gabriel Street in Rockdale. It concludes at 1:30 p.m. with raff le drawing and door prizes.
“There will be baked goods, arts, crafts and a silent auction for your shopping pleasure,” said Kelley Zapata, publicist. “The kitchen will have chicken stew, chili and sandwiches for sale with free coffee to enjoy while shopping.”
Alcoa Retirees Club Christmas party Dec. 9
Alcoa Retirees Club will hold its annual Christmas party Thursday, Dec. 9 at the Rockdale Knights of Columbus hall, according to Doug Williams, spokesman.
“All retired Alcoa employees are invited and a special invitation is extended to surviving spouses of retired Alcoa employees,” Williams said.
Doors open at 5 p.m. and the meal will be served at 6 p.m.
The Czech Chorus from Taylor will provide entertainment and the meeting will feature a gift exchange, Williams said.
Retirees are asked to bring desserts for the meal.
Genealogy society’s dues due by Jan. 26
Milam County Genealogical Society members should make sure their membership dues are paid by the Jan. 26, 2011 meeting in order to be able to vote in the election of officers.
Dues are: Indiv idual $15, family $20, senior citizen $10, and suppor ting membership $25. The society’s annual Christmas social will be at the home of Gene and Patricia McKee, 2009 Skyles, Rockdale, beginning at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7. Retired teachers to meet December 9 in Cameron
Milam County Retired Teachers Association’s next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9 at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Cameron. It will feature a semi-formal fellowship and sing-along. Relay committee meeting set Dec. 13
Next committee meeting for Relay For Life of Milam County will be held at 6:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13 at the Movie Gallery Grill in Cameron, according to Kim Jeter, chair.

Relay For Life sets holiday fund-raisers
The Relay For Life of Milam County will participate in Christmas activities in both Rockdale and Cameron t his weekend, according to event chair Kim Jeter.
Luminaries, in honor of survivors and those lost to cancer will be on sale at the Christmas stroll in Rockdale on Friday, Dec. 3. The lighted bags are $5 each and names will be kept and a new bag made for the actual Relay event in Spring 2011.
The luminaries will be placed around the Christmas tree at Wolf Park rather than along the sidewalk on Cameron Avenue. They will do a “roll call” and announce the names of the individuals honored or remembered with a luminary at 6:15 p.m., Jeter said.
The group will walk in the Cameron parade on the morning of Saturday, Dec. 4. Survivors, caregivers, team captains and team members or just anyone who wants to support Relay can participate. They will be lining up at 8:45 a.m. at Main and Orchard in Cameron, Jeter said. All are asked to wear purple.
They will also have an arts and crafts booth set up from 9 a.m. until noon to hand out information about Relay and will also be selling Relay ornaments. For Life teams, committee members, and anyone interested in becoming a Relay For Life volunteer are encouraged to participate in the entry. Cookies for Cancer Bake-Off is Saturday
THORNDALE—Relay for Life Thorndale will sponsor a Cookies for Cancer Bake-Off Saturday, Dec. 4 during the Thorndale Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade.
Contestants may enter cookies in the Traditional, Non-Traditional, Holiday, and Healthy Lifestyle (diabetic/sugarless/gluten-free) categories.
Ribbons will be awarded for first, second and third places in each category. Entry fee is $5 per recipe entered.
