After lying dormant for 20 years, Rockdale Coach Dusty Loewe revived the Tigers basketball tournament (or a version thereof) last year and it was such a hit, that he’s expanded it by two teams to 10 this go-round.
And, the Lady Tigers will join in on the fun and host their own side of the bracket with an eight team format.
While the boys tournament is being resurrected after a long absence, the girls used to have a tournament as well, started by Tiger coaching legend Ernie Laurence in 1955.
Loewe has plans to eventually have a 16-team field, which would return it to its original form.
Rockdale is the defending champion of the new and improved version of its own tournament, having beaten Robinson in the championship game.
The girls championship game will be played Saturday at 1:30 p.m. followed by the boys championship at 3 p.m.
Because they are still participating in the football playoffs, Cameron has been replaced by Hearne in the tournament.
Basketball fans can get a look at t he high f ly ing Mumford Mustangs, who regularly score over 100 points a game and feature freshman Aubrie King of Milano.
The boys side also features two Austin schools, Lanier and Crockett and Austin-area school Dripping Springs.
Girls teams included have an area flavor, with rivals and former district mates Cameron and Taylor along with LaGrange and Thorndale.
