New Roundup donation boxes distributed

Brown Santa, Thorndale Cares seeking contributions, volunteer helpers for ‘cheer’ efforts

With sacking, sorting and distribution dates quickly approaching, Christmas Roundup volunteers have placed 25 donation boxes around Rockdale for gifts of food, blankets and toys.

Roundup is one of three “Christmas cheer” efforts under way this holiday season in the Rockdale area.

It joins the Milam County Sheriff’s Department’s Brown Santa effort and Thorndale Cares.

NEW BOXES— A nn K ing, Roundup spokesperson said donations boxes are at the following locations:

Al four Rockdale ISD campuses, RISD athletics, NMotion Dance, Rockdale Signs & Photography, Ricky’s.

Classic Bank, Rockdale Federal Credit Union, Lee’s Landing, Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, Peace Lutheran Church.

First Baptist Church, Talk of the Town Hair Salon, Comfort AC, Brookshire Bros., Climate Control, Citizens National Bank.

Poor Boy Barbecue, Rocking B Day Care, Busy Bea’s, Pam’s Beauty Shop, Gatti’s Pizza, Meadowbrook Baptist Church.

“Cash donations are especially needed for purchasing food and can be deposited with any teller at Citizens National Bank, Rockdale, or by contacting Rita Juergens at the bank,” King said.

Roundup volunteers will be at the KC Hall from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, to receive donations of non-perishable food items and toys.

King said volunteers are also needed, beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 20, at the KC Hall to sort and pack boxes.

Drivers will be needed at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, to deliver boxes of food and toys.

BROWN SANTA— Donations to Brown Santa will be accepted through Dec. 17 at the sheriff’s department. Delivery date is Dec. 20.

Brown Santa applications are available at many schools and churches throughout the county, according to Wynema Adams, administrative assistant.

Citizens National Bank in Cameron is accepting cash donations or they may be mailed to Brown Santa, 512 North Jefferson, Cameron, TX 76520.

In addition to The Reporter, new toys and childrens books may be donated at elementary schools in Gause, Milano and Thorndale; Rockdale Intermediate School; Brookshire Bros. in Rockdale and Cameron; Buckholts ISD superintendent’s office; Buckholts State Bank; Harlan’s Market, Cameron.

THORNDALE CARES— Applications to be served by Thorndale Cares may be picked up through Monday at Thorndale City Hall.

Deliveries begin at 8 a.m. Dec. 18.
