Coach arrested over relationship with student
Christopher Taylor, 31, a first year assistant football coach in the Rockdale ISD, was arrested Thursday by Rockdale police and charged with “improper relationship between educator and student.”
Bond was set at $6,000 by Municipal Judge Jerry Waggoner. Full Story
Burn ban reinstated in Milam
‘Finned, flying fireworks’ also prohibited as Christmas, New Year’s approach
Milam County commissioners have enacted an outdoor burning ban in the county’s rural areas, citing concerns over increasingly dry weather and fire danger.

Prankster locks down high school
Police nab student; Internet rumors fly
A prankster using a cell phone managed to lock down the Rockdale High School campus for an hour Thursday morning and trigger what amounted to a high-tech panic.
By day’s end the Rockdale ISD felt compelled to issue a letter to parents outlining what had actually happened, followed by an automated phone call the next day. Full Story

‘Christmas in the 40’s’ Saturday
HEARNE—Camp Hearne, a partially-restored Prisoner of War Camp, will turn back the clock for a 40s Christmas from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday.
The camp, which housed 5,000 German POWs during World War II, will air 1940s radio recordings by Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Vera Lynn and others and will air Bob Hope’s 1943 Christmas special. Full Story

Huge homes tour draws 222 Saturday
Saturday’s Christmas in Olde Town Tour of Homes drew 222 persons and is believed to be the largest event of its kind ever in Rockdale.
The tour, sponsored by the Rockdale Downtown Association, featured the following locations:

A difference in school population kept Cameron and Lexington from sharing a district, but the neighbors are sharing a venue Saturday in their quest for a state championship.

Coach Moultrie finally gets his recognition
It has been three years since our own Rockdale legend Coach Bill Moultrie was inducted into the USA Track and Field Hall of Fame, but when he shows up this week in San Antonio, it will be his first trip to the ceremony.
When Moultrie was placed in the Hall of Fame in 2007, he suffered a stroke just before the ceremony and was unable to attend. Full Story

Tigers struggle on offense in loss to Columbus
Trying to shake off the affects of the Franklin Tournament, the Rockdale Lady Tigers were stopped by Sealy Monday night in Tiger Gym, 58-22.

Rockdale tax rebates down for the year
County totals continue to fall by almost 17%
Texas Comptroller Susan Combs announced last week that November state sales tax revenue totaled $1.84 billion, up 8.7 percent compared to November 2009. However, those increases are not showing so well within the local economy.
The City of Rockdale’s rebate check for December 2010 was down 16.5 compared to their check in December 2009. Rockdale received 42,014 this month. Full Story

The Christmas Season is here, the time of year when “Love Came to the Earth.” That is shown everyday during this season with people helping each other. One of those ways of caring is the Christmas Roundup. Donations are still being taken all around town for this worthwhile cause.
