Deputies term fatal wound ‘self-inflicted’

A 40-year-old part-time Milam County resident who was pronounced dead Saturday night at Richards Memorial Hospital was the victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Milam County Sheriff’s Department.

Michael Paul Streicher was pronounced dead following the shooting incident about 9 p.m. at a County Road 346 location south of Milano, according to Chief Deputy Chris White.

White said the sheriff’s department received a report of a “suicidal subject” at the rural location and dispatched two deputies, a state trooper and Precinct 3 Constable Herbie Vaughan.

“As they pulled up in the yard they heard the shot,” White said.

Streicher was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead. Justice of the Peace Chip Dunsmoor conducted an inquest.

The 9-millimeter pistol was recovered at the scene.

White said Streicher listed a College Station address but lived part time in Milam County.
