Roundup, Brown Santa to deliver
Santa may be coming on Christmas Eve but Rockdale and Milam County’s holiday cheer volunteers will have him beat by several days in 2010.
• Christmas Roundup, which serves needy families in the Rockdale area, will deliver food, blankets and toys on Tuesday.
• Brown Santa, a new county-wide effort of the Milam County Sheriff’s Department, will deliver toys and children’s books Monday.
• Thorndale Cares, providing food and toys to needy children in the Thorndale area, delivers on Saturday.
ROUNDUP— Before Roundup is ready to roll in its giant effort there’s a lot of work to be done.
“We’re a volunteer-driven effort and Sunday through Tuesday is the time when we’re going to need lots of help,” Ann King, Roundup spokesperson, said.
Volunteers will be at the KC Hall from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday to receive donations of non-perishable food items and toys.
Monday is the big day with volunteers needed back at the KC Hall, beginning at 9 a.m. to sort and pack boxes.
“Deliveries will start at 9 a.m. Tuesday and we need volunteers to help with that, too,” she said.
Last year, Roundup served 331 families representing 1,258 individuals, more than 800 of them children.
Until the weekend, donations of food, blankets and toys to Roundup may still be made at 25 boxes in many businesses and churches.
Cash donations may be made by contacting Rita Juergens at Citizens National Bank.
BROWN SANTA— Donations to Brown Santa will be accepted through Friday at many schools and churches throughout the county, according to Wynema Adams, administrative assistant.
Rockdale donation boxes are at The Reporter, Brookshire Bros. and Rockdale Intermediate School.
Cash donations may be mailed to Brown Santa, 512 North Jefferson, Cameron, T X 76520, or at Citizens National Bank, Cameron.
THORNDALE CARES— Volunteers for Thorndale Cares will make deliveries beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday.
